Barbera is believed to have originated in the hills of central Italy where it has been known from the thirteenth century. In the 19th and 20th century, waves of Italian immigrants brought Barbera to the Americas where the vine took root in California and Argentina among other places.
Barbera is a red Italian wine grape variety that is the third most-planted red grape variety in Italy. It produces good yields and is known for deep color, low tannins and high levels of acid
Barbera is deep in color and produces a robust red wine with intense fruit and enhanced tannic content. The wine offers an intense aroma of fresh red and blackberries with strong notes of plum. At Four Leaves Winery we employ the use of toasted oak chips which provides for increased complexity, aging potential, and hints of vanilla notes.
Barbera is a perfect red wine for those occasions when you are not sure of your guest’s preference. It is not too strong for those who prefer the lighter red wines; while at the same time can hold up well for those who prefer the bold reds. It is a unique varietal which will appeal to a large demographic. Give the Barbera a try. We are sure it will become a favorite for you as well.
